Water temperature plays a key role in the results of your hair color. Higher temperatures bring out more reddish tones, while cooler temperatures produce ashy tones. For ashy tones, keep the water between 120°F and 140°F. For vibrant red tones, use hot water at around 175°F. If the water feels too hot, let it cool slightly until it’s comfortable for your scalp.
To maintain consistent results, keep the dye warm in a water bath during application, so it doesn’t cool down!
